Ram 1500 vs. the Competition

Ram 1500

The 2019 RAM 1500 Pickup Ups the Ante Against the Competition

When you're looking for a full-size pickup truck, there are plenty of options out there--but which pickup is the right tool for the job? The RAM 1500 has long been known as a heavyweight champ, with its excellent longevity, powerful engines, and innovative features. The hardy RAM 1500 has been a favorite here at Herb Chambers Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM and throughout Danvers, Lynn, and beyond for decades.  The all-new RAM 1500 has been completely redesigned for 2019, capable of towing more, using less fuel, and carrying more, but some buyers still consider other options, like the Chevy Silverado 1500 and the Nissan Titan.

Although we're among the biggest fans of the all-new 2019 RAM 1500, we thought we'd offer a comparison for those still considering the 2018 Nissan Titan or the 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500. We think after learning more about the different models, you'll be a 2019 RAM 1500 fan too.

Ram 1500 vs. Chevy Silverado 1500

  • Max Power -- The 2019 RAM 1500 features an available 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with eTorque Technology. You'll enjoy plenty of strength with 395 horsepower, but you'll also get fuel-saving Stop/Start technology and cylinder deactivation. The Chevy Silverado's selection of 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8, and 6.2-liter V8 engines don't have comparable technology available.
  • Max Payload -- The 2019 RAM 1500 pickup can carry up to 2,300 pounds in its crew cab, high-strength steel bed, and RAM box storage. The 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 can carry 2,250 pounds without box storage.
  • Max Towing -- The 2019 RAM 1500 can tow more than ever before--up to 12,750 pounds. That's more V8 towing power than you can find anywhere in a vehicle of its class. The 2018 Silverado 1500 can tow up to 12,500 pounds--with a max trailering package and upgraded 6.2-liter V8 engine installed.
  • Suspension -- All 2019 RAM 1500 pickups feature a full coil-spring rear suspension for a comfortable yet capable ride. With available Active-Level® Four Corner Air Suspension, you'll feel more like you're in a luxury vehicle than a pickup truck. These suspensions are simply not available on the Chevy Silverado--or any other pickup in its class.
  • Transmission -- Every 2019 Ram 1500 features a powerful, responsive eight-speed high-torque automatic transmission. This smooth transmission ensures you always have plenty of torque without burning too much fuel at high revs on the highway. Most Chevy Silverado 1500 pickups only have a six-speed, but you can pay extra for higher trim-levels for a similar eight-speed transmission.
  • Interior and Technology -- The all-new 2019 RAM 1500 has one of the most advanced and luxurious cabs available, featuring an available 12-inch touchscreen, dial shifter, stitched leather interior, active noise cancellation, 3D driver information instrument cluster, Harman Kardon® premium sound, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, reconfigurable center console, and more. The 2018 Chevy Silverado's touchscreen is about half the size, features standard shift column, limited interior storage, and stationary center console.

Ram 1500 vs. Nissan Titan

Ram 1500 vs. Nissan Titan

  • Max Power -- With available 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine featuring eTorque Technology, the 2019 RAM 1500 churns out 395 horsepower and massive 410 pound-feet of torque, plus Stop/Start and mild-hybrid fuel-saving technology. The Nissan Titan has nearly comparable horsepower and torque ratings of 390 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque. No mild-hybrid options are available.
  • Max Payload -- The high-strength steel bed, interior storage, exclusive RAM box storage, and roomy cab of the 2019 RAM 1500 will carry up to 2,300 pounds. The 2018 Nissan Titan's standard steel bed and cab? 30% less capability with 1,610 pounds max payload--let's call it a C-. It's good enough for a run to the hardware store.
  • Max Towing -- The 2019 RAM 1500 is tow-rated for up to 12,750 pounds--that's class-leading V8 towing power. You can haul just about anything you could need. The 2018 Nissan Titan can only tow up to 9,400 pounds--if you don't mind two-wheel-drive. With the King Cab and four-wheel-drive options, the Titan tows even less. Even if you move up to the Nissan Titan XD heavy-duty diesel pickup, you'll still have less towing capability. You'll be able to haul a rented moving trailer without a problem.
  • Suspension -- The 2019 RAM 1500 features comfortable, smooth, and strong full coil-spring rear suspensions. You can enjoy even greater comfort with the optional Active-Level® Four Corner Air Suspension. The 2018 Nissan Titan has a multi-leaf rear suspension and a double-wishbone front suspension with stabilizer bars and a solid axle. Many Nissan Titan owners later install their own aftermarket suspension kits.
  • Transmission -- A fast, responsive, and smooth eight-speed transmission is standard on the 2019 Ram 1500. This torque-optimized transmission is designed to make sure you have no trouble starting off the line with a trailer or full payload. The Nissan Titan's seven-speed simply can't offer as much versatility as an eight-speed.
  • Interior and Technology -- The 2019 RAM 1500 features an available class-leading 12-inch touchscreen, premium leather heated and cooled seats, dial shifter, active noise cancellation system, 3D customizable instrument cluster, premium Harman Kardon® surround sound, panoramic sunroof, modular center console, and more. The Nissan Titan has a standard console, a much smaller info screen with selector dial, large column shifter, molded synthetic interior, and limited smartphone compatibility.
