Is the oil filter replaced every time a 2016 Ram 2500 has its oil changed? The oil filter should be replaced with the oil on a 2016 Ram 2500, following the manufacturer's maintenance schedule.

The published schedule for this model calls for oil filter replacement every 8,000 miles. Replacing it with the oil gives the new oil a clean filtration element instead of sending it through a loaded filter. The exact service timing can also be considered alongside the truck's service history and maintenance needs.

  • Filter replacement is performed alongside the oil service.
  • The filter is matched to the engine actually fitted.
  • The filter seal is checked after the engine has been run.
What is included in an oil filter replacement on a 2016 Ram 2500?An oil filter replacement includes an engine-matched filter, an applicable new drain plug gasket or washer, and a post-service leak check.

The filter is selected for the engine fitted to the truck and replaced alongside the oil. Where the engine uses one, the drain plug gasket or washer is renewed during the service. After the engine runs, the filter seal is checked for leaks so the technician can confirm the installation is holding properly.

  • Filter matched to the engine's specification.
  • New drain plug gasket or washer where applicable.
  • Leak check at the filter seal after operation.
What happens if the oil filter on a 2016 Ram 2500 is not replaced? If the filter becomes loaded, its bypass valve can open and allow oil to circulate without filtration.

A loaded filter does not stop the engine getting oil; it stops the engine getting filtered oil, and that is worse in a quiet way. Oil still moves, but debris captured by a fresh filter may continue circulating. An oil-pressure warning, unusual engine noise, or oil that darkens quickly after a change should prompt an inspection.

  • Debris can continue moving with the oil.
  • The bypass valve may open when the filter loads.
  • The manufacturer's service schedule helps determine replacement timing.
Does a 2016 Ram 2500 need a specific oil filter?Yes, the filter is matched to the engine, and filters are not interchangeable across engines.

The 2016 Ram 2500 uses a V8 with displacement ranging from 5.7 to 6.4 liters across its trims. The filter must suit the engine actually fitted rather than being selected only by the vehicle name. Herb Chambers Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM FIAT of Danvers can match the filter during service without relying on a part number or treating different engines as identical.

  • Engine layout: V8.
  • Engine displacement range: 5.7 to 6.4 liters.
  • Filter selection is based on the engine fitted.
Can the oil be changed on a 2016 Ram 2500 without changing the filter? The oil can be changed separately, but the filter should be replaced with the oil according to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule.

Keeping a loaded filter in place means the new oil may pass through a filter already holding debris. Once the filter loads, its bypass valve opens and unfiltered oil can circulate. Replacing the filter at the same visit provides a fresh filtration element and keeps the oil service aligned with the published 8,000-mile filter interval.

  • The filter holds debris carried by the oil.
  • A loaded filter can allow unfiltered oil to circulate.
  • Service history helps determine what maintenance is due.
